As we expand the impact of Veolia Cares, our global employee benefits program, we’re proud to highlight a benefit that has already been making a difference beyond the workplace — a Volunteer’s Day for all employees. This benefit supports our employees’ passions and underscores our commitment to creating a positive impact within our communities across the globe.

Dec. 5 marks International Volunteer Day, established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985 to honor the spirit of volunteerism at local, national, and international levels. On this day, volunteers are celebrated worldwide for their efforts to promote people-led solutions to our shared challenges. At Veolia, we see this spirit reflected in our employees, whose dedication to environmental transformation extends naturally into their communities.

Supporting our employees to support their communities

Through Volunteer’s Day, every Veolia employee worldwide has the opportunity to choose one day each year to volunteer for a socially beneficial charity or nonprofit they care about. Whether it’s participating in river clean-up efforts, supporting water conservation initiatives, or even efforts away from water, this benefit gives our employees the chance to contribute directly to the communities and organizations they are passionate about and be compensated for those efforts.

The volunteer initiative aligns perfectly with Veolia’s core values of ecological transformation, community engagement, and collective action. It is also an opportunity for our employees to grow personally, experience different perspectives, and create stronger bonds both within and outside of our organization. We know that enabling our teams to give back is an investment in the community and in their own sense of fulfillment and connection.

Veolia voices

Brinnae Woods, a Senior Lab Technician who has been with Veolia for six years, has used this opportunity to contribute to her community by promoting STEM education. She embodies the spirit of giving back through her impactful work.

“(Volunteer Day) made it possible for me to interact with students during the daytime,” she said. “I love talking to and interacting with youth to promote STEM, however, that can be hard when it is outside of school hours. Being able to connect directly through schools during instructional hours helped.

“I loved it. Service is important to me, so being able to not only serve, but to have my company’s support and backing to do so, made it all the better.”

Veolia Cares benefits our communities and enriches the lives of our employees. By providing opportunities for meaningful engagement and support for causes close to their hearts, we’re fostering a culture of giving back and making a difference.

“It gives us the opportunity to show others, including younger generations, what we do and maybe spark a flame in them to look further into the sciences as they grow,” Brinnae said.

Join us and make an impact

At Veolia, we recognize that our employees are our greatest resource, and their passion drives our success. Veolia Cares is just one example of how we support our employees — in both their professional growth and desire to make a positive impact on the world. By adding Volunteer’s Day as part of our global benefits, we empower every member of our team to take action for the causes closest to their hearts.
