Veolia Cares: Providing Time for New Moms

In 2023, we launched Veolia Cares, our benefits program designed for over 218,000 employees globally. To highlight its positive impact, we are reflecting on how this program has benefited our team members in various ways.
Veolia’s comprehensive benefits package considers economic, environmental, commercial, social, and societal issues. This program is a testament to our belief that the professional and personal well-being of our employees is crucial to their commitment and to our collective success in meeting the challenges of ecological transformation.
Among those benefits that our employees have access to is our maternity leave policy.
Our commitment to new mothers
At Veolia, we understand the joy that comes from adding to your family, and that spending time together in the early days of a child’s life is crucial. Starting the first day of employment, Veolia Cares offers:
- 10 weeks of paid parental leave at 100% basic pay for the primary caregiver
- One week of paid parental leave at 100% basic pay for the secondary caregiver
- Adoption leave that matches our maternity and paternity leave benefits
- Support extends to families experiencing loss, with benefits available in cases of miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death after 24 weeks of pregnancy. In some regions, support may be provided earlier.
Veolia voices
Our maternity leave benefit has made a meaningful difference in the lives of employees around the world. It allows them to cherish precious moments with their growing families before returning to work.
Nakia Borgella, a Lease Accounting Administrator with nearly two years at Veolia, found the experience transformative. Initially nervous about taking maternity leave as a first-time mother, Nakia’s concerns were quickly addressed by our supportive HR team.
“Veolia Cares is amazing and has quite literally changed my views on what benefits from a company look like,” she said. “I have never experienced such true care before.
“I anticipated only having a couple of weeks off and not being paid fully, but Veolia Cares exceeded my expectations, and I’m forever grateful.”
Kendall Jennett, a Lead Account Manager who has been with Veolia for eight years, called the benefit “a blessing” that allowed her to adjust physically and mentally without the pressure of rushing back to work.
“Ten weeks fully paid is a financial relief when welcoming a new child into the world,” Kendall said. “It's one thing not to have to worry about” during an already challenging time.
