ZeeWeed* Membrane Bioreactor with zeeDENSE*

Unlock MBR potential: Tailor mixed liquor through selective wasting & densification

Membrane Bioreactors (MBR) are normally operated with uncontrolled MLSS (Mixed liquor suspended solids) characteristics which limits the full potential of MBR performance. ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE is an innovative technology that combines ZeeWeed MBR with continuous flow densification to optimize membrane and biological performance.

ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE Customer Benefits

Overview

ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE reduces operating cost by tailoring mixed liquor characteristics to optimize membrane & biological performance.

Benefits include:

Membrane Performance

  • Reduced colloidal fouling
  • Reduced membrane cleaning
  • Improved sludge filterability
  • Increased permeability
  • Optimized performance over the life of the membranes

Biological Performance

  • Increased resilience
  • Biological phosphorus removal optimization
  • Nuisance foam elimination

ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE can be used for a range of applications:

  • Municipal - optimizing membrane & biological nutrient removal performance
  • Industrial - improved biological resilience and membrane performance
  • Upgrade of existing MBR plants - retrofit into existing MBR plant operation

How it Works

ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE uses a hydrocyclone to separate activated sludge into a dense and light fraction. The dense fraction is returned to the biological process and the light fraction is discharged to solids treatment. The result is selective wasting of bacterial populations that negatively impact MBR performance and retention of densified biomass fractions that improve biological and membrane performance.

Case Studies

ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE Paves the Way for Efficient Biological and Membrane Performance at the City of Detroit Lakes

The City of Detroit Lakes faced multiple wastewater treatment challenges, including fluctuating influent quality, varying industrial loads, and seasonal temperature changes affecting flow rates. The City implemented ZeeWeed MBR with zeeDENSE to address the challenges and meet strict phosphorus discharge limits. The system selectively removes problematic bacteria while retaining beneficial biomass, ensuring consistent performance despite seasonal changes and industrial load fluctuations.
