As we mark the first anniversary of Veolia Cares, our global employee benefits program, we’re proud to reflect on the positive impact it has had on our 218,000 employees worldwide. Veolia Cares represents our commitment to ensuring a common base level of social protection for all Veolia employees, regardless of their location or local legal requirements.

Through this program, we consider economic, environmental, commercial, social, and societal issues as we build a comprehensive benefits package. This program is a testament to our belief that the professional and personal well-being of our employees is crucial to their commitment and to our collective success in meeting the challenges of ecological transformation.

Among those benefits that our employees have access to is our industry-leading paternity leave.

Our commitment to new fathers

At Veolia, we understand the importance of those first precious weeks with a newborn. That’s why our paternity leave policy goes above and beyond:

  • 10 weeks of paid parental leave at 100% basic pay for the primary caregiver
  • One week of paid parental leave at 100% basic pay for the secondary caregiver

These benefits far exceed many industry standards and government programs, allowing our employees to focus on what matters most during this critical time.

Veolia voices

Our parental leave benefit has resonated with employees around the world who have been able to spend time with and appreciate their growing families before returning to work.

img2Drew Desembrana, Sales Manager for Services in Ontario, Canada, has been with Veolia for nine years and seen the evolution of employee benefits. Veolia’s parental leave far exceeds the minimum provided through Canadian government assistance programs alone, allowing Drew to focus on his newborn daughter and support his wife by sharing childcare responsibilities around their home before his smooth transition back to work.

“In North American culture, mothers have traditionally been solely responsible for caring for young children. Veolia Cares’ comprehensive parental leave benefits help fathers like myself take an active role in early childcare,” Drew said.

img1In India, Preetam Swami, Lead Customer Service Management Specialist, echoed those sentiments. Preetam has been with Veolia for more than six years and recently became a father. He found the Veolia Cares process to be remarkably smooth, from enrolling his spouse in health insurance to hospital admission and discharge.

“The paternity benefit during childbirth was a much-needed break to celebrate this personal milestone and extend emotional support to my spouse and family,” Preetam said. “I sincerely appreciate the efforts and close coordination of our insurance partner and Veolia HR team. Due to this, I was single-handedly able to manage the entire process and came home safely with my baby and wife.”
